About

For many years, I was frustrated by the general lack of understanding of the needs and wants of the domestic horse.  I knew we could do better by our horses, but didn’t know how.  So I studied and I learnt…….

Then, in November 2008 my family and I lost a beloved family pet to laminitis as a result of equine metabolic disorder.  We as a family vowed we would do our best to always work for the horses and do the highest good and with the best intention…to improve the welfare of the domestic horse.

Holistic Equine was born in January 2010 and is run by proprietor Beccy Smith and she is assisted by her family.  I want to share with you our knowledge and healing, for the good of the horse.  I run Holistic Equine as a business but profitable gain is NOT my sole aim nor what motivates me.  I do it for the horses.  The services and products offered by Holistic equine complement my ideals and my ideals complement my services and products.

Applied Equine Podiatry is the main service offered by Holistic Equine and is by far THE most influential science to emerge in the last decade which promises to improve enormously the health and welfare of the domestic horse today.

I aim to write affordable ebooks and paper back books on the ethical management of the domestic horse from a holistic viewpoint and the first series will be published later this year.

I invite you also to join the Holistic Equine forum which is FREE!  Here you can ask the experts, chat to fellow enthusiasts, browse the articles and enjoy the experience!

You can also meet me and fellow professionals and learn more about our services and products by visiting Holistic equine open days.  Click here or go to ‘events’ in the top menu for more information.

You can also keep in touch with us and join in discussions, through Facebook by clicking on the Facebook icon at the bottom of the page.

So what now?……Why, we study and we learn and we pass on what we have learnt.  There is always another ‘why’ and another ‘how’ around the corner…….

What is ‘holistic’?

Holistic  adjective Relating to a study of the whole instead of a separation into parts.

Holistic health is a philosophy of medical care that views physical, mental and spiritual aspects of life as closely interconnected.

Typically, holistic health care is supportive of the idea that animals and people have the innate ability to heal themselves, providing the environment is conducive to the healing.  As holistic health care professionals, we have to recognise what constitutes a healthy state.  We must then seek to recognise where the imbalances are and to assist the person or animal to become balanced, on physical, mental and spiritual levels.

A variety of therapies and treatments are used by holistic practitioners.  They are by nature; proactive in returning health while incidentally addressing symptoms felt by the person or animal.  This is in reflection to traditional veterinary and medicine practices in the developed world, where treatments tend to be reactive; however there are indications that more holistic practices are becoming more widespread as traditionalist adopt more holistic ideals as we enter a new spiritual era.
